Entrepreneurship Class Open Now Do you have a business idea or are you interested in learning about self-employment? Project ReMade, Reentry: Making a Difference Through Entrepreneurship, is recruiting applicants to participate in a series of free workshops which will provide comprehensive entrepreneurship training, leadership development, and mentoring to women who were released from prison 1-5 years ago. Classes will be held February through May 2012 on the San Francisco State University campus and will be taught by students from the Stanford Law School. Seeking Book Donations The Reentry Division of the Adult Probation Department is seeking book donations to distribute to people on community supervision in San Francisco. We’re looking for a wide variety of gently used books, including: nonfiction (exercise, travel, parenting, history, biographies, etc.); fiction (novels, bestsellers, mysteries, etc.); children’s books (all ages); and poetry. Please, no magazines or textbooks. If you have books you’d like to donate to help promote literacy among people served by the Adult Probation Department, please contact Jennifer Scaife, Reentry Resources Coordinator, at reentry.council@sfgov.org or (415) 558-2406.

Change to SF Parole Office and PACT Meeting Location The SF 4 Parole Office has closed. PACT Meetings continue to be held weekly on Tuesdays at 10:00am, and are now held at the San Francisco Parole offices at 1727 Mission Street (at 13^th and Duboce).

Request for Proposals (RFP) to provide Child Welfare Services to incarcerated parents The San Francisco Human Services Agency announces its intent to seek proposals from agencies, organizations, and/or qualified individuals interested in providing Child Welfare Services to incarcerated parents and legal guardians who have open Child Welfare cases. The purpose of this service is to provide emergency interviewing of incarcerated parents regarding family and other child placement resources and to provide reunification jail visits, jail/prison case management, coordination with child’s worker, and development of post incarceration plans. The RFP will be released on January 5^th. The pre-bid conference will be held on January 10^th at 9:30am. Proposals will be due February 6^th. “Rejected light is the parent of the densest darkness, and the man who, having the light, does not trust it, piles around himself thick clouds of obscurity and gloom.

Amazingly, we tend to forget that light is the source of strength, even me at times.  The world events, personal struggles, and challenges often leave me wondering is there any hope?  Yes comes the answer over and over again each morning for the last 50+ years of this life on earth.

And yet, fear (false evidence appearing real) creeps in and reminds me of those issues that were left behind, trying to provoke a response in the new day before me.  If this is you, take time to remember that you cannot change yesterday, today well that is up to you with hope and peace in front of you tomorrow.

The great invitation of Christmas is to open our hearts to the Savior who came to end our darkness. Jesus said, “While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light. . . . I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness” (John 12:36,46).
